Is mór an onór dom fíorfáilte a chur romhaibh go léir chuig Seachtain na Scríobhneoirí 2009. It is my great honour to welcome you all to Writers’ Week 2009.

This year marks the 39th occasion on which Listowel takes pride of place in Ireland’s literary calendar and, true to form, the quality remains top drawer and the ability of our town to host this prestigious gathering remains undimmed.

And while Listowel’s grá and meas for the written and spoken word is plain for all to see, it is our audience’s passion for diversity which continues to inspire an eclectic blend of visitor and contributor to Writers’ Week. This year’s programme reflects this diversity as keenly as any of its predecessors, and will provide inspiration for even the most curmudgeonly of souls.

As well as our annual diet of acclaimed authors, poets, journalists, artists, singers and storytellers, there are also treats in store for children with award-winning writers, children’s workshops, fun with music and stories and a sensational, Monster Slam Pageant to round off the Festival on Sunday.

I know that you are going to enjoy the delights on offer during this year’s Writers’ Week, and I am confident that Listowel will remain on everyone’s “things to do again” list.
