In the midst of a financial crisis, an unscrupulous banker defrauds a worthy family of their inheritance and separates true lovers in order to buy a socially acceptable husband for his spoiled daughter. "The Streets of Portland: A Melodrama" follows the shifting fortunes of these characters as their lives intertwine in mid-nineteenth century Portland. AIRE (American Irish Repertory Ensemble) has adapted the Victorian melodrama "The Poor of New York" by Irish playwright Dion Boucicault to a local setting, but left all the classic elements intact. Come hiss at the villain, sigh for the young lovers, and cheer when justice is done!
